Blue-tailed Damselfly
Taken at the RSPB's The Lodge nature reserve near Sandy, Bedfordshire. The ponds and pools are really good places to see damselflies and dragonflies. I love their colours and when it's hot, it's a challenge to photograph them - they become much more active.
This Blue-tailed Damselfly paused for a rest on a reed. I used manual focus to frame it so that some leaves in front were blurred and created a nice 'feel' to the picture. You can vote for this photo in the Guardian's wildlife photo poll! CommentsSparkyfaisca
