The first trip with my Dad's new 1966 VW bus. My brother Kevin and I
are tiring our slingshots. My Mom can be seen in the rear window if
you look at it on big.
We are on the road to Masonic a ghost town not far from Bodie. The
suspension was so stiff my Dad had Kevin and I sit in the rear over
the tire so it would make contact with the road.

Hi Bob, that's one of the reasons we sold it 1969. We bought a new 1969 VW bus with the sliding door, bigger engine,57 horsepower. and the new suspension where the rear wheels flared out instead of in.

Could they have made the logo any bigger? I love how it was part of the design of the van itself! You guys look not half crazed, but fully.
I would not ask you guys for directions.

Funny thing back then we asked for directions, the place was new to us. The coolest time was when Andy Griffith gave us directions to Aurora Nevada.
Then there was the time Burt Reynolds came down to me while I was fishing and asked how they were biting, while Judi Carne sat in the car waiting. We were crazy, but approachable.

Love those old VW busses. I had a 73' bus back east. But the salt on the winter roads took it toll. Had lots of rust problems. And after it blew a rod at 150k it was time to let her go.

Nice! And Kodachrome makes it even nicer!
A VW microbus just like the one in "Alice's Restaurant"!

This is wonderful... it really "pops" with a black background. Great sky, perspective and of course the VW. George
