With the simple goal of survival it's hard to imagine the strife that this woman has endured . India , beautiful , enchanting and so culturally rich . Yet it is the woman who has endured . Although changing , the treatment and status of women is shocking . The percentages of women raped and abused is mind boggling and somehow they almost fall into a different class of person . What this woman must have seen in her lifetime . There are many times that I wished that India not change , it's old world cultures and tradition so memorizing .Of course their treatment varies from area to area , belief to belief ,family to family and of course it doesn't happen to all . There are many fine families gracious and respectful of the woman but overall India's record here is so very very weak , this is one area where India can change not soon enough . It seems to me that if they only they empowered the woman using their intelligence and savvy . With the numbers of Indians one point three billion , there would be no stopping their rise , both intellectually and economically , to be one of the world's great countries . While touring the caves of Ellora a family approached us , as has happened many times we were oddities . They ask to take photos of us and get this they recorded our voices . According to them because we had such beautiful accents . As a barter this women agreed to pose with the natural light of the cave entrance illuminating her face . Each color , even the way it is wrapped represents something . Their cast , village or region of origin . The Hindu turban is different than the Sikh . To me all fascinating and so so colorful . Each one is a single length of cloth sometime as much as 6 meters (19 feet) long . What a cultural icon !
