It's amazing how much info can be derived from this Photo:
Flying at 110mph (good cross-country climb)
Straight and balanced
Climbing through 4300' at 150 foot per minute
Heading 060
Broadcasting on TIBA with Stellenbosch frequency ready
Squawking 2000
Mixture fully Rich
Less than 1/2 throttle
Carb Heat off (cold)
2400 rpm
15Gal in Right fuel tank, 20 in Left (yeah, right!)
Fuel Pressure slightly low, but still acceptable
Oil Temp and pressure in the green

Don't get too used to Flight-sim, the istructors tell me that re-training bad habits is the biggest problem.

Best advice I can give is to get your hands on an airband receiver and tune into 118.1 or 119.7 and listen to the ATC... it'll help getting your radio license.

Oh and save up plenty - i haven't flown with my instructor since march because prices gone up and i can't afford to anymore :'(

Ya i have a couple streaming links on iTunes (the one at Durban being the best!). I want to use the flight sim at the training school soon to see how I fare.. but yes I've heard the drill about the MS Flight Sim - but it's good for orientation i suppose

Wow really interesting photo and notes! I can believe what you say about Flight Simulator... its the same with some IT courses as well.. the guys with the old habits often struggle to break those habits and the guys coming in fresh learn as the instructors want them to do so (not that theory is ever a substitute for real hands on experience).
