Oh my god! I can't believe they still do that. My mom tells stories about that from her childhood. Ack!! And the dye is so even on their little fluff.

Your boys must be bouncing off the satellites. Bea would be fueled up for weeks just seeing them let alone taking some home!!!!

Ack. We've been scheming about getting some chickens for our yard. But I'm a thinker... not a fast do-er...

Here's the rundown on the coloring of the chickies: lancaster.unl.edu/4h/Embryology/colorchickens .shtml

Basically, vegetable dye is injected into the egg before they are hatched, so the chick is actually born this way. It's not just for Easter fun, but also used by scientists as a way to distinguish birds and observe their movements and habits directly after hatching. Cool huh?
