Senko hanabi- Japanese sparkler. A highlight of summer is lighting these pretty little fireworks.
Senko hanabi are different from regular sparklers in that they are held upside-down. This is because when it's finished sparking (and sometimes before), the lit end falls off in a hot burning ball. Senko hanabi also give off more delicate sparks than the sparklers we use in Canada, are orange, and burn in different stages. So you have to hold them still to enjoy the full effect.
We lit these in Kichijoji's Inokashira park to celebrate our anniversary.

Thank you Froghead! Don't you think my husband is holding it too close though? Ouch!
