This is something I have to try; I've never been to a Kushi-ya before.

oh I love that! is this the thing where all kinds of different skewers with all kinds of veggies and seafood keep coming....? I remember having one called 串カツ- wonder if kushi-age and kushi-katsu are different things? anywat=y it looks delicious, oh how I miss Japan food-wise. Just came back from an American pizza-and-yucky-salad party and, oh, seeing this is sooo........... ;)

Oh Maruchan, you have to try it!

Unidon, yup that's it. But at most kushi-age/kushi-katsu restuarants a cook does it for you.
The name kushi-katsu seems to be used more in Kansai and is usually casual and reasonably priced, while kushi-age is used in Kanto and tends to be fancy and expensive.
This place seemed to be more like kushi-katsu though, so I guess the difference is minimal.
