Dave Holland Jazz Ensemble Award

Photographs from the final of the Dave Holland Jazz Ensemble Award evening. The three finalist ensembles were chosen from 15 which started in the competition.
The finalists were, Sub Ensemble - Alex Merritt/Huw Rees Quartet and the John Randall Quartet.

Each band played a 40 minute set with a 15 minute interval to allow a turn round. At the end of the evening the judges panel of bassist/composer Dave Holland, Tony Dudley-Evans Artistic Director of Birmingham Jazz and Jeremy Price Head of Jazz Studies at Birmingham Conservatoire had the unenviable task of picking a winning ensemble.
They chose John Randall's excellent Quartet. Look out for John's debut album later in the year.
