Peru Circus City Festival Parade |
I took almost 900 shots during the
parade as I tried to capture everything
moving down the street as well as some
of the crowd and a few buildings to
create social and physical context for
the event.
For next year, I plan to make the
following changes:
1. Reduce my settings for vividness
and color saturation. I had these set
too high, and this ended up blowing out
the colors on a few of the shots. In
some cases, the reds were just too red.
2. Find a better location. I found
myself fighting two elements I didn't
have to contend with during my shooting
of the Haynes Apperson parade. First,
there were people jumping into my
foreground. Second, I couldn't see far
enough down the street to maximize my
use of the telephoto lens. As a result,
I got a lot of side shots, which weren't
the best. For next year, I might head
further down Broadway toward the end of
the parade. I would still need to be on
the east side of the street to avoid
shooting into the sun. Unfortunately,
Broadway is the only location on the
parade route that doesn't put heavy
shadows on the faces of those in the
parade. In fact, the first 50 or so
images I took were of the parade heading
west, and when I realized the shadows
were causing problems I headed to
Broadway for the rest of the parade. (I
shot into the east for the Haynes
Apperson parade, but that also started 2
hours later in the day.)
3. Decrease aperture for sharper
images.
4. Consider upgrading to a better
lens.
5. Increase ISO to 200. (Thanks to
Kokomo1 on the Kokomo Tribune talk forum
for that helpful tip).
That's all. :)
