Spock
I finally finished my tribute to Ape Lad's Spock illustration for the BoingBoing TV intro. I had to downsample the original image to make the finished
piece a reasonable
size. I used Ikea Pyssla beads (often called perler beads) for the pixels, so I couldn't match the
colors exactly, but I still managed those rosy cheeks! Must be the
human half coming out ;o) You just put the beads on a pegged workboard
and then melt them all together with an iron.
Thanks for the inspiration, Ape Lad!

How big did it wind up being and is it meant to hung on the wall?
blakewest (53 months ago | reply)
It's about 8" x 10", and yes, once i find a suitable frame, I plan to hang it. I thought it might look good sandwiched between two sheets of plexiglass bolted together.

Very nice. I would love to see others in this vein. I never would have thought about using beads in this way.

That would be nearly perfect, except that Spock "blushes" green, due to his genetic makeup. *Trekkie Alert* Otherwise, that's really cool!!!
