The Bute village elder (and former chief) showed us how to make a bunch of things from trees... from tooth brushes to ink and pens. Here he demonstrates how children are taught the Koran by drawing it on a slate. They draw out a passage and if they make a single mistake, must repeat it till they get it right. All children can write a Koran from memory... even if they don't know how to read what they wrote.
