Wooden Ships

A shot showing the wooden boards used to construct the bridge. As seen in set models, the outer ring of the bridge was actually made of "pie slice" shaped wedges that could be removed or replaced to allow the camera to roll in (on a dolly mat) or kept in place to show the control stations from that position. In this shot the wood grain of the original lumber used to construct the platform under Spock's station is clearly visible. I have no idea what episode this is from....

Nice shot from the teaser of "Errand of Mercy," after the Enterprise is attacked by the Klingons. In the aired version, the wooden plank is not as noticeable. Interesting, though, that no one bothered to even place some black poster board over the obvious plank of wood.

Here is a trekcore link to the scene, you may have to copy and paste this into your browser window, and remove any spaces which may mysteriously appear in the link (between the r and c):

That'll teach me not to check the HD screencaps. :-(

steersman3, thanks for the reference! That sure looks to be the one. Appreciate the link. Amazing how all these things slipped into the aired versions, though less obvious on 1960s televisions they do sort of compromise the scenes.

Great film clip, and I too am surprised that the wooden edge made it into the aired version! Nice catch!
