One of the trickiest species to find in New York State became easy this year. A pair of kites settled in southern Montgomery County, New York and have been seen since the beginning of June. The background photo includes both birds. July 2009.

This adorable goose has been present in Merrick for some time now. This was my first camera-equipped encounter with it. Some features of the beak suggested some Snow genes in it, but it also seems to be within range of variation for a pure bird. Cammann's Pond, 3.16.09.
