just had mri scans on my brain , eyes , optic nerve etc. this morning, can you just ask for a copy ?

yes; at least in germany, you are to receive a copy on demand as of the law (§ 810 BGB). you can be charged a 'reasonable' amount for the copy though; which is usually about 5 euros for the cd with the radiology images on. they will be in dicom format but usually come with a dicom viewer that should allow you to save them to jpg as well.
