Thanks for the info about Stick Figures in
Peril. That's a funny group, and I posted
this photo there. (And thanks, everyone for
the comments.)
The more I think about this, the more I'm
convinced that whoever created this sign,
must have been watching a sifi move about an
alien encounter right before drawing it.
This sign was next to an emergency vinegar
rinse, which is used (along with other
procedures) to detox the wound. Some of
those jellyfish pack a potent punch. Other
Australian beaches have Betadine stations for
after close encounters with coral and other
marine wildlife.
Stingers are nasty little brutes that take
over many beaches in northern Australia
between November and May each year.
They are the small Irukandji jellyfish and
the Box Jellyfish and are very dangerous to
humans. Their poisonous stings have killed
people.
Their usual haunts are beaches - they rarely
trouble swimmers on the islands or reefs of
the region - and the advice is to either swim
in the stinger enclosures provided at major
beaches or wear stinger suits.

Wow, never seen a jellyfish warning, it's a good idea I guess but it could scare even more people out of the beautiful aussie beaches!
Thanks for telling me about the group!

Are you sure this isn't a squid warning?
