Friday lunch: gohan + natto + Calpis soda
Lunch last Friday was a bowl of gohan and natto.
The gohan (rice) was regular Calrose rice.
Natto is fermented soy beans. The soy beans are cultured like cheese or yogurt and left to basically rot. The result is gooey and sticky with a very strong odor -- you can stink up the whole house with this stuff. I've enjoyed it since I was a little kid and I still love the stuff.
The polka dot bottle on the table is "Calpis soda." Calpis is a Japanese cultured milk drink, something like a yogurt drink. I'ts kind of sour, kind of sweet.
This is a carbonated version of that. When I was a teen I and my friends drank Calpis while joking about drinking "cow piss." Har har har.
That's my work laptop in the picture, sitting on the dining table. I worked from home. The little calculator looking thing is the magic doodad that let's me work from home. It generates the secret passwords for me to use to login to the work network.

I'm very impressed that you eat natto!
Have you tried "Pocari Sweat" :-)

I've eaten natto as long as I can remember. My son likes it also. Do you like natto?
I can't get past the name of Pocari Sweat, so I've never tried it ;-)

I always keep a couple of packages in my fridge.
I sort of miss the mito-natto (水戸納豆) that I ate in my childhood. It's wrapped with the original straw package, which actually makes the soybeans fermented. The problem is that I almost forgot what it tastes like!

Pocari Sweat tastes like non-cabonated Calpis, sour and sweet. It is kind of electrolyte for supplying water and other else after sport. It tastes good!!

Oh, I know Pocari Sweat is something like Gatorade. I was a teenager in Japan when it was introduced in the late 70's/early 90s. The name conjures a negative mental image of drinking human perspiration.
