The price of gas shot up a nickel just today. It was $3.969 at this station this morning

    You might look again in your area -- the price went up quite a bit today after sitting at about the same price over the past couple of weeks.

    £5+ here. That's $10+. It's not a level playing field, in that we get taxed hugely on petrol, but income tax is relatively low. It's tricky here in Europe, because many neighbouring countries have substantially lower fuel rates, but that's a quirk of the tax system there. In Britain, the congestion is so high and the pollution of so much concern, that tax is used as a major means of controlling car use and revenue generation.
    I understand if $4 has not been reached before and is maore than anyone is used to, that it is a pivotal barrier that has been breached.
    I think you and I will be determined that this rise will see more 2 wheeled, self-propelled transportation.

    Thanks for the note, Force. I posted my thoughts on McCain's gas tax holiday here. Briefly, I think it's a bad idea. Thankfully, it appears his proposal has died.
