Oregon - no sales tax

Oregon - no sales tax by richardmasoner.
That really really confused me -- clerks actually charged the prices marked on the goods I bought. There is no sales tax in Oregon.

What confused me when I visited New York in 2004 was that the sales assistants didn't charge the price shown on the tag. In the UK there is a 17.5% Value Added Tax on almost all goods but one doesn't think about it as the price is almost always shown inclusive of VAT.

When I moved to the USA in 1984 that confused me also, but I've since learned to adjust for it.

It's our way of welcoming you to our country: Let's guess at how much this really will cost! Of course now that 1GBP= $5,437US, it's not that big of a deal.

Ha ha :-)
I've can't understand this currency market. When the pound is high against other currencies that's good (or bad) when it's low that's good (or bad) When we didn't adopt the Euro that was good because it fell, now it's good because it's risen. I think I'll stay at home !!!
