Friends for rent? That's tantamount to prostitution!

Which is just fine by me.

This is fun. I like this local feel it has. Normally people would enhance this, but it has a sunday morning feel to it, too. Hmm.

This is super strong Frank. Love the contrast work on the Cinema text. The scene feels so light and inviting.

Sorry, it's just too bright for me in the top half of the image. Otherwise I would save.

Looks like "The Last Picture Show".

    One of your best.

The "brightness" at the top of the frame is mist/rain. You can see its effect in the low contrast of the buildings off in the distance.

Frank, you know I think you're a good photographer... and this isn't a bad photograph. I like your stuff coming through the stream. I think it is overexposed and the sign alone doesn't hold up for me. Voting is close... Good luck.

    Thanks for the comments everyone.

Just for the record, this is a properly exposed shot. The sky was almost paper-white that day (its winter here in Rochester - its surprising there wasn't snow as well) and there was a significant amount of mist in the air causing much-reduced visibility (thats why the buildings in the background and the tips of the trees are fading to white).

  27. BigFrank (78 months ago | reply)

Yeah, I should try to find some old cars and photoshop them in or something. That would be fun.

  28. Pig Sty Avenue (78 months ago | reply)

That's a good idea, BigF... maybe some homeless people, too; and cowboys, there ought to be cowboys.

  29. BigFrank (78 months ago | reply)

    Ummm ... why?

  30. Pig Sty Avenue (78 months ago | reply)

You lads on that side of the Atlantic might understand irony in about 800 years...

  31. BigFrank (78 months ago | reply)

Irony? I dont understand how cowboys in this picture would be ironic.

  32. Pig Sty Avenue (78 months ago | reply)

OK, BigF, I withdraw my last comment, which on re-reading it sounds rather arrogant. Any attempt at humour which has to be explained has failed.

  33. BigFrank (78 months ago | reply)

Now I'm sad. I just wanted to know why cowboys in this picture would be funny or ironic.

Was it a Blazing Saddles reference?

  34. Pig Sty Avenue (78 months ago | reply)

The 'whoopin and a hollerin' was.

Your wide streets just remind me of cowboys. And I thought you were being ironic about RUKnight's talk of cars/1950s. And I went a bit too far with my talk of cowboys.

It's interesting, though, BigF. I wonder if recent DMU squabbles have been caused by misunderstanding of one anothers' senses of humour.

Don't be sad, matey. Life's too short. Vive la difference, and all that.

  35. BigFrank (78 months ago | reply)

PigSty, No not at all! I didnt take any offense to your statement -- I just didn't get what you were trying to say and wanted to understand. I couldnt see the connection between the pic, homeless people and cowboys is all.

If I took offense I probably would have deleted your notes and kept silent.

Your statement reminded me of the final scene in blazing saddles with the cowboys riding into the movie theatre.... so I was wondering if thats what you were referring to.

  36. Pig Sty Avenue (78 months ago | reply)

As I remember it, the bad guy in Blazing Saddles asked his henchman what he should do about the people in the town, and he replied that he and the boys should ride into town, "a whoopin' and a hollerin' ". One of my favourite lines from a movie.

  37. Pig Sty Avenue (78 months ago | reply)

Of course, I suspect that there NEVER have been many cowboys in Rochester, NY.

  38. BigFrank (78 months ago | reply)

    No. I doubt that highly!

  39. caitlinburke (78 months ago | reply)

I know March when I see it.
This is one of the best photos I've seen in a long time, and pulled me out of a flickr funk where I was looking through photo after photo and saying "crap. crap. that's crap. that sucks. oooh, your dog, how cute. crap"
Excellent work, my friend, keep it up.
