There were a few pelicans on the ponds at our local golf course last summer. This was one of the young ones.
Update: I believe these pelicans are the American White Pelican

A picture perfect day in Southern Alberta! This is Willow Creek (just west of Claresholm on Hwy. 520).
Now all that's needed in this picture, is Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, sitting on the bank of the creek with fishing poles dangling in the water :-)

Had to dodge the cow patties (aka "pasture pizzas") when tramping down the hill to get a shot of these old wagon wheels :--)

Took this photo out the open window of my truck. She posed very nicely for me :-)

I believe this is a Spruce Grouse, sometimes called Canada Grouse. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Update (Jan. 24).....so thanks to my Flickr friends and others who were kind enough to comment, this may be a Ruffled Grouse, then it also may be a Sharp-tailed Grouse. Since I really don't know.....perhaps I'll just call it a plain "Grouse" ..or..... a silly bird that, if it was smarter, should have run away when we stopped the truck beside it so I could take it's picture :-))

Doesn't she blend well with her surroundings?!
