Aunt Florence, The Haunted Mansion Cemetery

Aunt Florence, The Haunted Mansion Cemetery

Aunt Florence never did a dishonorable deed, yet found face down in canary seed.

I don't know about you, but Aunt Florence looks positively malicious to me…

Spires of the Magic Kingdom at Dusk

Spires of the Magic Kingdom at Dusk

The spires of Cinderella Castle and Space Mountain at dusk, from Bay Lake. Or, as my three-year old daughter described them "Mickey's castle and the big mountain."

Though I was thrilled with the colors in this image, it was taken from a moving boat at dusk, I had the wrong lens on the camera, and I had to crop out a lot of extraneous detail. As a result it's not nearly as sharp as I'd like, but it still captures a beautiful moment from our most recent visit to Walt Disney World.

I loved the new queue area for the Mansion, it added so much to the exterior atmosphere! Can't wait to see what the Imagineers have planned for Peter Pan's Flight.

Under the Sea

Under the Sea

One of the many beautiful dioramas that fill the windows of the Main Street Emporium in The Magic Kingdom.

If you'll indulge me for a moment, this picture is a pretty good "one shot" summation of my most recent trip to Walt Disney World. I had hoped to use the vacation as a way to rekindle my romance with photography, and had planned to get lots of new material to showcase. And while I did get many new photos, it was a family vacation and most of my energy was spent on my daughters and their interests.

I've been going to Walt Disney World since I was 3 1/2 years old, but it's a funny thing, seeing it through a child's eyes all over again. On Main Street for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, my daughter—obsessed with Disney princesses, and the Little Mermaid in particular—discovered the dioramas that fill the windows of Main Street's Emporium.

As an adult, this is the sort of detail I might ignore, racing to ride Space Mountain. But soaking in the wonders of Main Street, my three-year-old asked me to lift her up, so she could study each window intently, shouting, "Look Daddy, Pocahontas!" Or "Daddy, it's the Beast!" When she found Ariel, she just quietly stared in awe.

This picture is for Clare, who constantly reminds me to slow down and soak in the details.
