Pound of sugar, pint of beer, etc.
Here is the label of the amazing wasp's nest in Oxford's Museum of Natural History.
The nest was built in 1857 by German wasps "constantly supplied with a mixture of sugar and beer, their daily consumption being a pound of the former and a pint of the latter." This magnificent colony attracted the attention of other nearby wasps who abandoned their own nests and moved into the growing wasp mansion, to which they were welcomed "without the least show of opposition."
