1/27/12 Report cards (27 of 366)

1/27/12 Report cards (27 of 366)

It sure feels weird to be on the parental receiving end of the report card. Truth be told, it feels weird to get report cards for kindergarteners. There are no actual grades, only progress indicators and a nice little comment section. Both girls are doing beautifully, according to their teachers. I read the notes aloud to each of them and watched them beam with pride.

Lilly decided to take a spin back through her homework notebook to see all the work she's done so far. This was one of my favorite drawings so I'm glad I caught her on that page.

Today I got to spend a crapload of money on regular maintenance at the Honda dealer. I also got to read stories to a class (Kate's) full of kindergarteners.

Reading to the children was really fun. I adore Kate's teacher. She just has a peaceful way about her, which is pretty amazing considering what kindergarteners are like. I think some of her positive energy has rubbed off on the children because they were just so attentive, hanging on every word. I had expected to read one picture book, and then possibly one more story from another book. Once I finished those, Kate begged for another story from the second book, and since they were all so interested, her teacher said go right ahead. I admit, I'm a lively reader, but I was pretty surprised that these kids sat there for 30 minutes without falling to pieces!

As a reward, Ryan brought home Five Guys for dinner (after the kids were asleep. Heh.)

I don't take a ton of bathtime photos these days, and of the ones that I do, there are very few I would consider OK for flickr. Someone's always flashing something I'd rather not post on the internet now that they are getting older. I was really happy to end up with an exception to that tonight. I pretty much love everything about this image, but particularly Kate's gummy top teeth and the tiny bit of Lilly's mischevious face peeking out from behind the shower curtain.

You know your kid is feeling lousy when she doesn't even take one full bite of this before she heads back to the sofa. Poor Katie. She has her pre-op appointment tomorrow for ear tube and adenoid surgery next week, but developed another miserable ear infection overnight. I cannot wait for my sweet little muffin to feel better.
