I recently wrote in a flickrmail to a friend :
I, too have struggled at times with my photography - I see the same
subjects done over and over: smoke, drops of water, insect eyes, and
yes, flowers and sunsets.
I have often though I should just enjoy the work of others. I also
don't want to WORK at flickr. Some people spend 8 hours a day
commenting and faving everything in sight, so they can get hundreds of
comments and faves back.
Completely senseless if all you want is attention in return. In fact,
I've been very bad for months about faving anyone else's work - I
probably went two months without faving. Part of it was to see if
people would still visit my work, just because they liked it. Some
visited, some stopped.
There are a 100,000 great photographers out there, and I'm not good
enough to make any kind of living at it, so I just go with enjoying
the process, and playing with "darkroom" post-processing
techniques. If it's not FUN, it's not worth it to me.
I can sure relate to how you've been feeling, thought. . I can't tell
you how many times I've seen clouds recently, had the urge to grab my
camera, and then thought, Jeeez, that's been done before, why do it
again if I can't make it exceptional? Does the world need another OK
photo of clouds?
I come to flickr for amazement and inspiration . . and if someone likes my photos, good - but I won't die without it. If a photo of mine helped you get closer to snapping that next photo or yours, then I'm delighted.
If you haven't read THE LITTLE PRINCE - here it is onlinehome.pacific.net.hk/~rebylee/text/prince/contents.html
