Light from the planet Venus and a few thin clouds combine to create a really unique glow and some awesome tones in the night sky as the planet rises up from behind Red Mountain. This 30 second long-exposure image was taken from Red Mountain Pass between Silverton and Ouray, Colorado.
Beyond the grand night-time scenery, I wanted to mention that the noises of the wild were possibly the best part that night. When I was quiet and waited for the vehicles in the distance to disappear, I could hear a whole chorus of Coyote yelping. I'd heard them before in other places, but never that many. On this occasion, they were everywhere!! Nothing could be better than a serenade from the animals to remind me that I'd left my own domain and had entered theirs...
