lightspeed toward the new year (or, the Gitzo goes to work)
So I finally "get" the difference between a no-name, crappy tripod and a nice, well-built one.
I've had a lot of fun - and some really decent results - with my old tripod and my "while driving" shots, but tonight, when I tried my new tripod, the differences were immediately obvious.
For one, the tripod (a Gitzo 1325) is way beefier than the old one, and, without the center column, far easier to setup in the car.
The ballhead (a Markins M10) is super easy to adjust, so composing the shot is a breeze.
Finally, being so much beefier, the camera is much more steady than it was before, and therefore, the shots are that much crisper.

Wow, fantastic! My (inexpensive) tripod broke in my luggage recently and this convinces me to go with a better one.

Where is there room for a tripod? I would think some kind of clamp attached to the passenger headrest with a ballhead mounted on it would work but you've obviously mastered it your way. I hope to get into night photography and might give car shots a try too. Very well done.
