wow - great range in this photo - you didn't
have to do any HDR on this photo? The sky is
amazing and I really like the way the lines
in the clouds draw your eye to the statue.
You definitely know how to bring out strong
colors, but I find the horizon much more
interesting than the subject. On the edges
there are vivid trees and bushes, then
buildings that slightly slant in, completing
the fisheye effect. The trees are wild on the
edges, and become groomed as they disappear
behind the pedestal. The bushes also feed
into the center. All of this creates a
falling or pulling sensation, but it leaves
out the foreground and the statue, which is
above the vanishing point. They eye never
gets up there. Even when I purposefully focus
on the statue, the clouds overpower it. If
you want to have Washington bursting through
the clouds in a shower of angelic harmonies,
I would suggest cropping out the land
entirely. If that isn't your intention, then
the title confuses me. In any case, the
strongest aspects of this image are the rich
colors and captivating background.
I do like seeing the Pru and the Hancock in
the skyline. I recently graduated from BU,
and along with the Citgo sign, they are my
guiding lights for Boston navigation.
First of all, great job! It's a wonderful
shot, is it HDR? If not that's really one of
the best exposed single shots I've ever seen. The wide angle makes the sky really look
dramatic, I love it!
One question: I see you're using a sigma
10-20 on a D40. It doesen't aoutofocus,right?
Are you finding it hard to foucus manually?
Is the focus confirmation dot reliable or
not?
I think this picture is smoking! i love the
clouds, the HDR-esque look of it all. It's
just a sweet, POWERFUL looking image with
George Washington kicking ass 300-Robot
Chicken style. hahaha
Wow, is the first word that came to mind when
I clicked on this image. The thumbnail does
this no justice and it should definitely be
viewed large, to really enjoy it.
This is one of those images, where the main
subject being centred works well. You have
composed this image perfectly, with it
balanced out well on each side. you
obviously found the right spot to stand to be
able to capture that so well.
I think the 1 thing that really makes this
image so great is the clouds. The formation
is creating a really appealing look. They
have a forward movement, that combined with
the statue looking the same way, gives the
appearance of everything coming towards the
viewer. I don't think i've actually seen an
image like this before. It's almost a 3-D
type shot. That is what really makes it so
great. You were defintely at the right
place, at the right time, when you captured
this.
The lines created by the clouds, lawn,
roadway, all work so wonderfully in creating
a very eye pleasing capture (this is a
definite fav).
Very well done, and the forward looking
movement is the key. I think if the sky (by
that I mean the clouds) had any ifferent look
or appearance to them, the effect would not
be the same and the capture would have a
different look to it.
