This is a small cave found within the unusual sandstone formations in Nevada's Valley Of Fire. The photo was captured in early morning, when the reflected light and resulting coloration was at its peak. This was a near-far composition for which I tried a new technique: I captured multiple exposures, shifting the focus from near to far through the series, and then combined the resulting collection of files in Helicon Focus, a software tool that converts a focus stack into a single image with extended depth of field. Although it's difficult to tell from even the large size of the image here, the file is sharp from front to back. By the way, this is a rather small cave; the back of the cave -- with those odd formations reminiscent of cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde -- is only about four feet across. LARGE ON BLACK.
