Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim newly built museum Soumaya that houses his art collection which includes the second largest grouping of Rodin sculptures. It also holds many of the best known European artists from the 15th to the 20th Century, Mexican art, religious relics, historical documents and coins. Designed by Slim’s 38-year old son-in-law, Fernando Romero, the six-floor, 183,000 square-foot Soumaya Museum is shaped like a wonky futuristic hourglass layered with 16 000 aluminum hexagons. The $34 million museum is part of an enormous complex including headquarters for the magnate’s telecom corporations Grupo Carso and Telcel, a shopping mall and luxury apartment housing.
