[148/365] Magnetic Flux & Metal Detector for iPhone 3GS![]() ** NOW AVAILABLE ON THE APP STORE - CLICK TO OPEN INFO PAGE IN ITUNES **
Yesterday, my friend Phil and I built our first iPhone app together; Magnetic Flux & Metal Detector for iPhone 3GS. It uses the compass (or magnetometer) built into the iPhone 3GS to detect magnetic fields and thus can sense metallic objects such as keys, coins, or electronic devices. The application has a gauge to show the strength of the magnetic field, vibrates when it detects strong fields, and also has graded tones for each strength similar to an old fashioned metal detector. These kinds of applications have been seen on the Android G1 but it's the first time they'll be available for the iPhone. The app is currently in the Apple App Store approval process and we expect it to be available very soon. In the mean time, you can check out the sneak preview demonstration video or visit our iPhone Development app website; philandben.com. In this photo, you can see both the website we created as well as the application currently running on my iPhone 3GS (and it's detecting a strong magnetic field from the MacBook beneath it!)
