a moment in autumn
last weekend I travelled back home to shoot a wedding (previews on my facebook page) and expected to have a day and a half at home to relax, and enjoy home comforts. As it transpired, a predicted storm meant they cancelled all the trains travelling back the next day, and I had to travel back that afternoon instead, meaning I only had a few hours to spend with my family, and at home. (This was an ironic subversion of the previous week, when line failure on the trains meant I'd had an extra day down south in Cambridge). To make the most of it, we walked the dogs through the woods and the stream (which is what I think I miss most about home), and had soup over dinner. I caught a couple of self portraits in the driveway, another thing I've missed doing, living in the centre of the city, and I noticed the onset of the storm as my tripod wobbled in the wind. Each year I seem to miss autumn - I'm stuck in the city, a far cry from the forests, lakes and glimmering streams of the countryside. Autumn in the city is beautiful - it is coffee cups in one hand, a hardbound book in another, and amber hues as my hair blows across my face and leaves crunching beneath my feet.
It was a whirlwind in so many ways, and I can't wait to return at christmas.
