I've come to love the work of a wonderful portrait artist from L.A., Sean Cheetham. I'm hoping to spread the word about Sean, even though he is already quite successful, even at his young age (32).
Don't you love how the model, Chantal Menard, is tattooed and adorned with outlandish hair accoutrements, but evokes an old-fashioned, almost classic pose as you might expect to see in a 16th century painting?
I made a blog posting about Sean that is full of information and links to other paintings: beauregardpictures.blogspot.com/2008/10/sean-cheetham.html
Since my blog posting, I have had an e-mail conversation with Sean about this painting. I asked if Chantal was in Native American garb, and he said I was not the first person to ask this. In reality, he said Chantal's dress was more polynesian than anything else, but that the porcupine quills in her hair lent to the tribal quality of the painting.
