Victory Gardens '08 San Francisco |
Victory gardens return to San
Francisco's City Hall - not seen last
since 1943!
The 2008 gardens are a massive
collaboration between a bunch of
fantastic groups and people, including
idea originator artist/designer Amy
Franceschini, Willow Rosenthal and
Slicker Farms in Oakland, Alice Waters
and Slow Food Nation, and a huge number
of warm-hearted and enthusiastic
community members, with the whole affair
managed by CMG Landscape Architecture's
John Bela. And all supported, of course,
by mayor Gavin Newsom and the City of
San Francisco.
The gardens will be up for a full
growing season, at which point the food
will be harvested and given to the SF
food bank. Hopefully this larger garden
and event will give rise to a more
widespread city movement in urban
farming.
