Forget the signs. Why should we not take
photos at Gunwharf? What harm are we doing
unless you have a tripod stuck out in the
middle where people are walking. This
clamping down on photgraphers is really
pissing me off - are they going to chuck out
pro photographers who are taking pics for
there post cards that they are selling in
Gunwharf. Not on your nellie!!!!!!!!! On what
grounds did they ask you to leave? What are
they going to do if you refuse to go - call
the police who have no powers to stop you
taking pics as there is no law saying you
cannot take photos in public places.
Whilst I wasn't thrown out the security
guards stopped me taking photos in the
covered shopping arcades at Gunwharf. They
made feeble excuses such as not being allowed
to photograph the 'special offers' in shop
windows etc. I was absolutely incensed but it
is private property and so couldn't do much
about it. I asked how they expected people to
come from far and wide to take pictures of
one of the most iconic structures in the
country only to be turned away. They said
that it was OK as long as you stick to the
harbour front.
I have a 'ticket' for taking pics in
Gunwharf, I was surrounded by about 6
security guards and bullied into showing them
my images so that none of them were on it..
they were searching a kid about 13 at the
time so I snapped them, they panicked cos
searching kids without their parent or
guardian is illegal. wish I had not deleted
it now, hey ho we live and learn
