Damn! Keep shooting with this camera, Wade. If I had known, I would have bought it for you last year. I could go on for a long time on this one.

love it. angle is perfect and she is quite the toughie!
meg greer (90 months ago | reply)
love the color. the coloring of this is outasite.
great expression, too. she means business.

Hey thanks everyone! I love this one too. She hates the sun in her eyes and was just tired of me sticking a cmaera in her face. Funny thing is that I meant to just have it as a "Family" only pic and left it public only by accident. I'll leave it though.
S.Mckay, I've been going nuts with this camera. Impressive lens. But hey you got Hassey you wanna send me? ;)
i to I, I was surprised the view wasn't more distorted. The camera is maybe 6 inches off the ground. I was sitting on driveway.
Meg, thanks. Re the color: I'm glad you mentioned it. I got the film for less than a buck a roll on ebay. Expired by a few years. Looked even greener than Fuji normally looks. A little color correction and desaturation got the color I was looking for.
meg greer (90 months ago | reply)
i always either get super green or nothin. i have the worst luck with expired film, but i think i hope too hard it will turn out like this, and somehow that reverses the effect. still trying, though. :)

color's awesome, you got a heck of a deal on that film!
WadeB (90 months ago | reply)
Thanks, tgray. I was going to run it all through the Holga, but now . . .
Don't give up meg. Plus a little PS or similar can add some magic if all else fails.

You don't need a hassy. No one needs a hassy.
WadeB (90 months ago | reply)
Yo, S. Why do you reckon? I have an unhealthy lust for one.

look at this picture...

LOL! Well, there is that.

Wow, oh wow.
I think this is brilliant.

Seems like all your kids have attitude!
The colours are great, nice vintage feel.

I truly don't think portraiture gets any better than this. Definite personality coming through (in spades), the angle is great, it makes her look giant enough to match her attitude, the BG isn't distracting, and the shape of the trike allowed you to put her front and center without the negative space becoming static. Well freakin done!
I don't think you need a Hassy, either. I have one (inherited it from my father, wouldn't have bought it, just as I bought a Contax G2 instead of a Leica) and it's really just a camera. It's a box with a place for film and a place to let light in just like any other cam. It does have the somewhat unique property of souding like a shotgun, though. IMO it's the decisions that you make about what goes in your frame that matters, not the box itself, and you clearly don't have a problem with that!
PS Sorry about your lunch! :)

oh boy have I seen that face a thousand times on my daughter! :) But, it's a great shot! The Yashica likes ya I think. :D

Talk about attitude! :)
Sweet ride! and good choice of perspective for this shot.
Makes her look bigger than life!

god what a picture! I love the washed out background - the foreground is just perfect - and even if it's a staged look this just is so f-ing fun to look at instant fave!
WadeB (90 months ago | reply)
Thanks again nicolai for such a thoughtful comment.
Re. a Hassy. You and S.Mckay are right, a camera is just a tool, and much more important than having a fancy tool is just getting out and shooting a lot, looking at lots of great photography and art, and learning as much as possible. I've long said a great photographer can make great art with a shoebox, some tape, and a sheet of film.
Still, there's something about just holding a really well made tool. But I plan to practice TONS on this Yashica before getting another serious 6x6 camera.
re. lunch. I'll just send you the bill! ;)
Hey ann, poor kids right? ;) And thanks!
CK, something about the proportion was what made me excited about this when I saw the negative. I think the big hood and coat make her look as if she looms over the little trike. You are right. Bigger than life.
Thanks, Liz. Good to see you back here. The shot is somewhat staged, but the look is all her. Usually I tell her to growl like a tiger (did I read that tip here?) which gets a big laugh or a big funny face. Here, she was just done.

Yes, fantastic capture
Wade Griffith (89 months ago | reply)
Great portrait. She has a little attitude in this one. You should probably Photoshop in a Harley to fit the 'tude. HA!

Oh, that's a great shot.
