Safari Resource Hog?

Please tell me this is not normal.
Safari Resource Hog? by bdepardo.
Normally I use Firefox because Safari always runs so slow for me. I never thought of checking Activity Monitor to see what it was using up. Can this be right? That is insane. Seriously.

Running:

PowerBook G4 15" (second to last generation)
100GB HD
1.5GB RAM
Tiger (latest update)

Something must be wrong, I'm guessing a corrupted pref file, but I'd have to check it out myself to be sure.

I go back and forth from safari and firefox, but safari has never done that on any of my Macs, intel or Power Pc.

I've only ever seen my safari up at 200mb, that was after having it open for 24 hours, and I think on average I must open about 300 tabs a day at least.

Trajan K: Doesn't Safari use WebKit?

caius: I only had 3 or 4 tabs open. very weird. I wish there was some way I could just delete every trace of it and reinstall.

@ thestoryline: I think the confusion stems from the WebKit system framework and WebKit nightly (build) being both often referred to simply as "WebKit." The nightly is basically the Safari wrapper on the WebKit system framework. -OG
