So, today I received a message that the editors of Getty Images had selected 13 of my photos, and invited me to sell them as stock through their site. Those who do posed model shoots can just pull the signed model release out of their file, so they just have to decide is if they want to sell for stock or not. Obviously for candid event and sports photography I don't have model releases on file ... most of the subjects are people I saw the once and have never seen again. The only ones I would even have the possibility of getting releases for would be the tri kids, as they're there every year, and I could accost their parents at this year's event. The only one I definitely wouldn't need a release for is the one of the kids behind the ice, as though they're people, they're not recognizable. Anyway, the model release situation makes my decision easy ... I can't sell most of them as stock. Still, it's nice to be chosen, as it means someone out there thinks my photos are good enough that people might want to buy them for whatever people might use stock photos for. Of course I've already had parents buy pictures from me ... it's great when that happens too ;) . Anyway, even though I have to decline the invite, I did want to brag a bit (I guess) and let everyone know what they chose, seen above and linked below.
