Nathaniel FELTON Jr. Home
Salem (actually Peabody) Mass.
During the Salem Witch Trials, Nathaniel Felton Sr. signed a petition along with his son,
Nathaniel, and some other neighbors in defense of John Proctor and his
wife. He also signed a similar petition for Rebecca Nurse. Unfortunately,
the petition had no influence on the court in their subsequent decision
that these people were witches deserving of death. John Proctor and
Rebecca Nurse both were hanged as witches.
The Arthur Miller play The Crucible is based on these events. In the Nicholas Hytner film, Daniel Day-Lewis played the role of John Proctor.
