Cool! Much better than my lame "I've
never been there so I'll take a picture of
the map" photo. Did you go for the US
Open, or to see the old World's Fair stomping
grounds, or something else?
I grew up in New York and have been back many
times. On this trip rather than do the things
we normally do we made a list of things I
have never shown my wife that I wish I had.
The old World's Fair grounds (now in serious
disrepair) was one of them (along with The
Bronx Zoo). There are only a few things still
left on the list: the U.N., the north end of
Central Park, the Bronx and Brooklyn
Botanical Gardens, Poe's Cottage (I guess
maybe more than a few).
I ws there in '64 and '65 as well. However,
this photo was taken around 2003. It was very
desolate. The New York State pavilion has
been left there to fall apart. If you like, i
can upload other pictures to give you a feel
for it.

BTW, that's the Arthur Ashe Stadium in the background.

I was there in '65, Barry, but not since. Your picture strikes me with a sense of emptiness; if it's from your archives, when was it taken?

Thanks, Barry, I would like to see them. I don't understand why they're letting it deteriorate.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Flushing Meadow Park, and we'd love to have this added to the group!
