The Stars At Night Are Big and Bright
While up at Boy Scout Camp hanging out at night, I was fortunate enough to have basically no moon around for the perfect time to take photos. Without the city lights and pollution, the stars sure came out each and every night. This is what camping is all about!

Excellent exposure scott! If you are interested in doing more astrophotography, I recommend using:
deepskystacker.free.fr/english/index.html
Which is a free program that allows for a process called image stacking. This allows you to create images with much less noise, without the need for detail killing noise reduction.
You simply load however many RAW frames you want into the program, and it will stack (or average) the frames. Since the noise changes from frame to frame, and the signal doesn't change, you end up improving your SNR, or Signal to Noise Ratio.
The factor of improvement (over a single frame) is the square root of the number of frames you stack. So if you had stacked 25 of these frames you would have 5x less noise. I usually plug in about 50.
DeepSkyStacker creates a 32bit floating point TIFF as an output file. The file has incredible Dynamic range, and must be processed to reveal the details you want in your image.
Pixinsight LE is a freeware program that allows for the processing and exporting of these files:

Very nicely framed by the tree silhouettes.

Scott,
I'm an amateur songwriter and I'm building a slideshow to post to YouTube for a song of mine called, "CAMP". Your photo at www.flickr.com/photos/barl0w/4906988866/ is excellent. Can I use it in my slideshow? (I'll credit you for it- perhaps "courtesy of Scott Barlow@flickr")
