I didn't realise this was a family photo, when I first saw it! Were they your mother, and aunt?

    13. Robert Barone (33 months ago | reply)

Yes, my mother on the right. All my vintage photographs are family.

Women on the left looks identical to my grandmother, Merle Dankers. Any chance it is her?

    17. Robert Barone (26 months ago | reply)

Sandra, On the right is my mother, on the left is my Aunt. However, I'd be happy to be wrong about my Aunt and the photo is a bit blurry.
So if your grandmother lived in the Bronx in the late 40's, please tell me and I'll look into it further.

    18. SandraD33Hardy (26 months ago | reply)

Yes, she did. I showed this photo to my mother and she was amazed at the resemblance.

Merle Rutledge is her maiden name.

Hi Amy, so nice to hear from you. This photo has taken on a life of its own, 5000 views on Flickr but many more on Tumblr, Pinterest and many blogs. A vintage jewelry company in Holland has asked if they could use it as a logo.
How I would love to be able to see my mother's reaction to the popularity of her photographs. On second thought, maybe I'm better off not knowing. She looks sweet, but she could be tough and she had a healthy Italian temper.
