In Nome gas is still and will be all winter $4.99 and heating oil I don't wanna even look at - approaching $6. But don't ask about the poor villages - heating oil up to $10. Gas at over $7 in places. Don't think they have much hope right now. Thank goodness for Chavez at least in this case.

Hmm, since hope can be a collective concept, maybe this is saying Alaska is taking a bite out of hope, much the same way as McGruff takes a bite out of crime?
