I honestly cheered out loud when the final results came in.

These facial-expressions tells alot, I'm a photographer myself and i like the documentary-feel of these. Honest photographs of an honest man and family.

All the best, and support,

Mr. President Elect Obama--as an American citizen wanting the change you speak of, ask for our help, tell us what we need to do. I think we finally get it that we will all need to sacrifice and make some changes, and are ready to do it. You are not taking on this huge challenge alone, your citizens are here to support you. Make sure to spend enough time with your family, and get enough rest so that that huge job does not swallow you whole!!! We are behind you.

The true God probably is truly with him and his family. But the 'God' of the black and white evangelical and Mormorn churches of the world hurt California badly...and this will not be forgotten or accepted. EQUALITY FOR ALL, is the LAW of our land ...and who better than Obama to know it.

PS for those confused about the date...apparently the poster left up the date of posting..of course all this happened on NOV 4 2008.

I never felt so happy before in my life with the result of and election, specially in a foreign country. This is a huge step for a better world, free from hypocrisy, free from greediness, free from medriocrity, free from stupid wars, a world where mankind can finally evolve spiritually. This brings great hope and positive thoughs for everyone. I truly believe we are living historic moments, 20 or 30 years in the future we'll look at this day as the day the world has changed and the day we've taken another step in the evolution of humanity. This is a man who has worked really hard to be where he's at right now, this is a man from the people for the people, this is the man who made me look at the USA as a referece country again, it'll be hard to clean all the mess made by the Bush administration, but the first step has been taken. Thank you Obama, thank you American people for electing such a great man for President. Congratulations from Portugal.

This is one of the happiest historical turning points in my life. Perhaps the most (it more than compares with the freeing of Nelson Mandela). America has pulled itself out of a dark age of ignorance and prejudice, the neo con culture, the knowingly ignorant (if that makes sense) . Barack is an intellectual as well as an inspiring leader.
Unfortunately, there will be a lot of rednecks still, like Rush Limbaugh who will continue to vent their racist spleen, but Barack will bring a huge number of previous doubters to his side.
In mid 2008, I was a Hillary Clinton supporter, but after she made that remark about 'obliterate Iran', I researched Barack and his speeches, and realised how truly remarkable (indeed messianic) this guy is, and have been his total supporter since. May his genius for organisation and decision making and picking a good team continue for the next eight years.
Barack! You did it!

Another comment.... I am not a god-botherer, but this event has actually made me think that there is some divine providence that steered us away from the nightmare of 4 yrs of the hypocritical christian-fascism of Palin and the republican party. If these people truly believe in the concept of God's Plan, then they should accept the miracle of Barack's presidency as part of this Plan, and unite behind Barack in repairing America.

barrylightbourn says:

This Change has been more than inspirational...

It felt visceral. I cried the night of the election and I cry more now each time I see a further sign of how foundational this change is… it’s in all the comments here.

I’m a white sixty year old Canadian/British male, psychotherapist for 37 years. I want to comment from that perspective on where I believe we’re going from here.

Being moderately good at what I ‘do’ as a psychotherapist comes, I believe ;>) at least in part from my awareness of how we are all ‘split’. We are divided into differing sides of self - loving/fearful, awake/asleep, male/female, angry/defeated, forgiving/hateful - you name it. I work at healing that split in myself as well as in others (as they choose to!) We live, in those ways, in ‘duality’: we see ourselves as ‘just a body, mind and feelings here’ but we are also a ‘consciousness that animates this life process’.

In 1971 I saw perhaps one male to 30 women. These days I often have more men than women to book for therapy. That change parallels, I believe, what Barack’s election is saying we can achieve.
I grew up in a relatively privileged environment. Yet having been crippled at times by depression or anxiety, watching Obama I realized something fundamental. There is probably a part of each of the 6 and a half billion of us that has felt we Have To: 'sit at the back of the bus' - be vulnerable and have someone else in charge of our lives. Maybe the change he is facilitating is one we can each participate in. Maybe we can each risk being much more the Authors of our Own Stories… bridging our brokenness. I call it Switching Off Autopilot.
