I'm Canadian too, we're in London, Ontario and we openly wept when it was announced that the President-Elect had been elected Presidentially.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this process on either side of the isle. To have participated so overwhelmingly in this years momentous election should teach the rest of the world what patriotism is, and a sense of the duty one has to their government and countrymen.
Our two great nations can now start to work together to repair a relationship strained by political divisiveness and fear. To begin again, truly realizing that which unites us rather than that which would divide. We are all family today; You gave that to us, America. President-Elect Obama: You gave us hope. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

It's fair to say that all us Canadians were watching this election night as intently as our own last month, if not more. The difference is that there is a large consensus up here behind Barack Obama. He would have won more than 500 electoral college votes had it been Canadians doing the voting!

I still wonder if some of the election results were "off," but Obama used a 50-state strategy that ensured any voter suppression would be counteracted by voter turnout.
Regardless... we're all breathing a sigh of relief, and next time I go out of the States I won't have to feel like apologizing!

What was achieved on Nov. 4th is truly a victory and in no way should it be seen otherwise within its' right. But not for the same reason it is also the spark which will ignite our constitution doused over the years with the fuel of dwelling liberties by the very people it was designed to protect.

I am so proud of this family, I love and adore President-elect, Barack Obama, Michelle, and his two lovely daughters. God couldn't have chosen a better family to display his power, love, and strength. I am also proud of my country and believe that all people are not the same and like Black Americans-want change, unity and equality. We can do this with belief in ourselves, our leader (Barack) and God's strength. Again, thank you Obama and family from the bottom of my heart. I have been living in the Middle East for the past 4 years teaching, and I have always been proud of my country America even when other Americans were ashamed and calling themselves Canadians. I used to tell them, listen 50% of us DID NOT vote for President Bush.
Now I feel so proud, I walk down the street and have Arab Muslims coming up and congratulating "ME?", Wow, this is amazing! I've always loved Egyptian people they are so warm and they rarely blamed Americans for the actions of the current president, but I am so proud of my country and my people for making this historic change.

I hope sir that you willo remember the elderly and those who don't have much such as food and help with rents such as section 8 we need that increased very much so that folks aren't put on a waiting list for years the need is great. I just watched a documentary on CNN about Dr. Martin Luther King and the many people who died during the civil rights movement. It was heartbreaking to see all the marches, the signing in 1965 of the right to vote for African Americans, and Dr. King's death. Many people young and old do not understand the struggle that took place to arrive at this point in America. President-Elect Obama is entering the White House at a very crucual time in the U.S. We most all come together and help "our" country get back on its feet after 8 years of the Bush Administration. We must keep Mr. Obama and his family in our prayers that he and his family are safe from harm. We still live in a diviided and racist society; 1963 and 1968 were really not that long ago. I love this family and pray daily that they are safe from harm and hate, and that Mr. Obama is able to carry the many burdens that are waiting for him as President of the United States. But, I know this man is smart, articulate and wise. He will succeed as the 44th President and get the country back to normalcy and respect.

i am proud of americans who kicked off racial prejudices out of their country. they are really the apostels of the 21 c world by preaching humanity. it is their ambition and support what puts obama where he is now.because of their support for their man to be the president of the world they assure their country to be the best country in the world.obama is now an icon for the oppressed third world country boys to crush the stumbling rocks of life with endurance. Here it is 5 days after the election, I'm looking at the pictures, but most of all the comments from other countries and I have a tears in my eyes. One election has not only brought hope to the United States of America, but to the world around us and tfor his I am grateful. The United States is a great country and we stand for peace and prosperity for all.
To the world: Thank you for the wonderful comments you have given in support of our new president. I'm hoping that you all can see the true United States, not one of conflict and war, but one of peace, love and warmth for all humanity, for this is who we truely are. The United States is made up of everyone of you and we would not be who we are had we not come from one of your countries.
To the United States: Remember, it doesn't matter who you vote for, it matters that you vote. Thank you to all of the first time Voters, if everyone voted, can you imagine what we could change? Vote, it's our right as American Citizens.

This Change has been more than inspirational...
It felt visceral. I cried the night of the election and I cry more now each time I see a further sign of how foundational this change is… it’s in all the comments here.
I’m a white sixty year old Canadian/British male, psychotherapist for 37 years. I want to comment from that perspective on where I believe we’re going from here.
Being moderately good at what I ‘do’ as a psychotherapist comes, I believe ;>) at least in part from my awareness of how we are all ‘split’. We are divided into differing sides of self - loving/fearful, awake/asleep, male/female, angry/defeated, forgiving/hateful - you name it. I work at healing that split in myself as well as in others (as they choose to!) We live, in those ways, in ‘duality’: we see ourselves as ‘just a body, mind and feelings here’ but we are also a ‘consciousness that animates this life process’.
In 1971 I saw perhaps one male to 30 women. These days I often have more men than women to book for therapy. That change parallels, I believe, what Barack’s election is saying we can achieve.
I grew up in a relatively privileged environment. Yet having been crippled at times by depression or anxiety, watching Obama I realized something fundamental. There is probably a part of each of the 6 and a half billion of us that has felt we Have To: 'sit at the back of the bus' - be vulnerable and have someone else in charge of our lives. Maybe the change he is facilitating is one we can each participate in. Maybe we can each risk being much more the Authors of our Own Stories… bridging our brokenness. I call it Switching Off Autopilot.
