As a UK student, nothing has ever really excited my college as much as this man becoming President. Nice job Barack, it would have been awful if you hadn't won...

This is the strongest image, reflects all the tension of the moment.
I hope that within 1 year, the world is not celebrating the victory of a black man, but the first year of office of a great president, that, I hope, supporter of peace. Greetings from Brazil.

This is the best shot of the set of candids from the evening. I assume from the order he's watching McCain's concession. But the particular pose in that moment, of hands in prayer and concentration, with his wife sharing the same pensiveness, shows so much of the depth of his intellectual character, their strength, his faith, and his discipline.

    28. Olivia Vavroch (55 months ago | reply)

It appears as though President-Elect Obama is looking forward to what we will face as America.

    29. greekgeek (55 months ago | reply)

Based on the last shot, Obama is watching a concession speech he did not have to make, but could have.

So in addition to the speculations people have made above, I think Obama is considering the character and fortunes of John McCain, and reflecting on the interactions between them. Plus, "there, but for the grace of God, go I."

As a Canadian I'm not accustomed to feeling envious of Americans (especially for the last 8 years!)... But I sure am now... Envious and deliriously hopeful. Congratulations to you, Mr. Obama, and to Americans everywhere. Inspiration has come to America!

I've never been prouder. As an American in the UK, this election really does make life a little easier! The world has always wanted to like us, wanted to find us inspirational, but sometimes we made ourselves so unlikable.

I should also say, that despite the fact that she's been away from the states for most of her life, my 16-year-old daughter is very proud. You were the talk of her school!

      Many congratulations.
