Orsen Welles' Touch of Evil...so much could be said about this film...often noted for its opening long shot (which was re-instated to its original length thanks to Rialto Studios), a very non-Mexican Charlton Heston's portrayal of a Mexican detective, and perhaps one of the most wickedly hip forms of torture. the earmark of the end of the noir era. evil was scripted by Welles, but only allowed to direct at the insistance of Heston. despite being at the helm, Welles' battle with the studio over the final cut was ultimately lost, until more recently restored to its original cut.

    Welles' Quinlan is intentionally self-referential:

Quinlan: Come on, read my future for me.
    Tanya: You haven't got any.
    Quinlan: What do you mean?
Tanya: Your future is all used up.

Fantastic film, of course, and I love the quote you chose!

"Tanya: You're a mess, honey. " Sums it up too...

      and I can't resist:
      "Pete Menzies: You're a killer.
Hank Quinlan: Partly. I'm a cop.
Pete Menzies: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Drunk and crazy as you must have been when you strangled him. I guess you were somehow thinking of your wife, the way she was strangled.
Hank Quinlan: I'm always thinking of her, drunk or sober. What else is there to think about, except my job, my dirty job? "
