Theme: Children at Play
Young Canadians are the future of our nation, and play is a healthy
part of their physical, social, and cultural development. Images of
youngsters having fun tobogganing, learning to skate, and playing ice
hockey capture the spirit and beauty of the Canadian winter. Against a
backdrop of snowflakes, excerpts from Roch Carrier’s book, Le Chandail
de hockey,* and its English adaptation by Sheila Fischman, The Hockey
Sweater, evoke memories of childhood.

Les enfants constituent l’avenir de notre pays, et le jeu est un
élément important de leur épanouissement physique, social et culturel.
Témoignant de l’attrait et de la beauté de l’hiver canadien,
l’illustration montre des jeunes qui s’amusent en toboggan, apprennent
à patiner et jouent au hockey. Un extrait du livre de Roch Carrier
intitulé Le chandail de hockey* ainsi que de son adaptation en
anglais, The Hockey Sweater, par Sheila Fischman, évoque des souvenirs
d’enfance. Des flocons de neige figurent à l’arrière-plan.
