Pink Luv

Pink Luv

This is one of many shots I took at Petaluma's annual Cruisin' the Boulevard salute to American Graffiti last weekend. And YES, the film "American Graffiti" was, indeed, filmed right here in my home town. How cool is THAT??!! :-D

And the name of this classic car really was "Pink Luv". ;-)

Singin' the Blues

Singin' the Blues

On a recent trip out to the coast I passed by a farm that had THE COOLEST blue truck parked just outside the fence that surrounded the part of the property where various houses and trailers were. I intended to go in search of some humans to ask permission to snap some pics, but as soon as I got out of the car I was greeted by two dogs barking, cats scrambling for cover, and cows mooing. Since any stealth covert picture taking was clearly blown by all the noise coming from the guard dogs and guard cows, I was a little bit nervous. I started knocking on doors. I went to 4 houses on the property — no answer...no answer...no answer...no answer. After no signs of life, I decided to just start shooting...and QUICKLY.

I spotted this gnarly looking rusty and crusty shell of a car (pics to be posted another time) that was inside the fence and then high tailed it outta there to begin shooting pics of this truck that was just outside the fence. Well, wouldn't you know it...right in the middle of snapping pics a car drives in. I was sure I'd been busted and might get asked to leave. I continued to shoot some more pics, waiting for the folks who'd driven onto the property to come back out and give me the old heave ho. I guess they must get people like me stopping by quite a lot, because they just ignored me and went about their business. I took about 10 more pics and went on my merry way. I was just relieved that when they drove in I was on the OUTSIDE of the fence, rather than INSIDE the fence. ;-)

And you know, those damn dogs barked the ENTIRE time I was snapping pics. :-O

Crimson Tide

Crimson Tide

Duncans Landing ~ Sonoma Coast, California

On a recent trip out to the coast...

I was driving along and spotted this amazing crimson red from a distance and just knew I HAD to investigate! The ice plant is a beautiful rusty reddish orange color this time of year. I was hoping to catch it when the flowers of the ice plant are in bloom (it's a little early for that) — their colors range from a lovely pale yellow to a vibrant magenta, which is absolutely GORGEOUS. Hugging the cliffs, just beyond the ice plant, was a lovely patch of bright yellow mustard...a yummy icing on an already delicious cake. I have been up and down this coast many many times over the years, but I don't recall ever stopping at Duncans Landing — I usually make stops at other favorite points along the way. SO happy I decided to check out this spot! I will definitely make it a regular stop on future visits.

Happy Easter everyone! :-)

Water Dance

Water Dance

So...
On our drive back home from Point Reyes Station last week, the sun was setting as we made our way through the beautiful green hilly countryside. We passed by this cheese factory that has a lovely pond with picnic tables all around its banks. Well, once again, as luck would have it, as I was driving I glanced over to my left as we passed by this spot. WOW!!! The setting sun and the silhouetted trees reflected on the water were STUNNING! We made a quick u-turn and I hurried down to the edge of the water, snapping pics like a mad woman! I had just enough time to get some decent photos before the light left me completely.

Timing...timing...timing...I can't say it enough. Between the Studebaker shots and then these, I had a VERY good day of shooting! Maybe it was the luck of the Irish. ;-)

Happy Saint Patrick's Day, y'all!
