Technical: 8 Dof is appropriate but I would like to see
the larger version to examine the sharpness
of the foreground object. I like the toning
that fits the sucject.
Composition: 8 Well done strong composition.
Impact: 8 It draws the attention. Thanks to the perfect
dof this image works. I like the minimalistic
look and the cold colouring that adds some
mood.
Commercial Viability: 8 I always comment creativity here.
Paradoxically it is difficult to do something
original with macro photography. But your
work stands out and it is already an
achievement. A nice addition to the short
series that I have seen in your portfolio.
Technical: 7 Although just with the small size available
it seems the foreground object looses some
sharpness at the lateral edges because of
very shallow dof, even at f8... I'm not sure
if this is a more or less feature. Good
exposure and toning. Composition: 9 Interesting macro composition, with the
second object replicating the first one in an
opposite direction, like an unfocused mirror
image. Good use of dark background. Impact: 8 Interesting image from thumbnail to this
available size, mostly because of it's
simplicity and creativity. Commercial Viability: 8 Stapples Office Center, or something like
that :)
Hi I’m a moderator from the portfolio pro
group and you don’t have the required number
of crits for this image. I hope you don’t
mind but I'm going to fill in for you.
Technical: 7 good sharp central objects. I
like the shallow dof although it does seem
post processed just a tad. Composition: 4 at first it strikes me as good
but once I get around the good dof I begin to
have troubling issues with the composition.
For me the central interest has balance but
its centre of gravity doesn’t seem to work
for me. I also would have arranged the out of
focus reflections in the distance differently
or even cloned them out to clean up the comp. Impact:5 initially good but the problems in
the comp minimise this somewhat. Commercial Viability: 5 not really sure here.
It’s a good still life but again the
composition doesn’t help.

Could you tilt the focal place some so the the focus runs from the tip of the the front pin through the front edge of the tack?
kidding. very cool shot.
