Thanks for the kind words and the fave, Reggie! Thats next on my agenda. I miss riding a motorbike so much. Its definitely going to be my first purchase after I graduate and get my first paycheck.
: Thanks Guys! : California is not my home, but I miss it already, having spent an absolutely super summer there. You're lucky your home is at least in the same country where you live :)
: Its very easy if you use Photoshop. There is other specalized software out there which is supposedly better and/or easier, but I have not tried any other. I'm not sure if GIMP can do it. I have to check that out.
Bala, I'm going to pick at this jem just a bit if you don't mind. I like the shot. The composition is tight and you had a vision, but your gear and your software is messing with it. I live about 50 miles north of Big Sur and frankly it looks the same up here as it does there. With the same problems. The kit lens, when you use it at wide angle, has barrel distortion and vignetting. You need to correct for it in the individual frames before you stitch. Also as you move the camera the metering changes the camera settings. Put the camera into manual so it can't change aperture or shutter from frame to frame. With a shot like this it's better to take 4 shots and stitch rather than 2 larger ones because the software can use the more centered parts of the frame. It's also easier to color correct/match the sky in a more centered frame. I can really see the deeper blue diagonal stitch pattern where the software patched the frames together. I can't believe it missed the only long straight line in the 2 frames. If you follow the edge of the green field, there is a huge step in the stitching. Thats from the barrel distortion in the lens. The software can't decide which to match, the hills or the field. So next time you pano, hear me screaming in your ear..."Smaller frames, use the middle!"
: Thank you very much, Richard! I'm very glad somebody in Flickr is giving me critical comments. I have been quite frustrated by the lack of them! I agree with your analysis and recommendations wholeheartedly. I know my equipment better now and will keep the suggestions you mention in mind! You're spot on when you mention the barrel distortion. In fact, I had many shots of this place (handheld.. my friends were too impatient for me to setup the tripod). Letting the camera handle the metering, along with the barrel distortion resulted in my being able to stitch only two shots. I also now know better than to use a polarizer while shooting such panoramic wide angles. The edges inevitably come out darker than the centers.
Also, I've been wondering why nobody has commented on the *ugly* stitch lines running in the middle of the photo. I could not believe that it was staring in the face only for me. Glad to know I'm not alone!
Once again, thank you for your comments. Please, please critique liberally. It is the only way I learn. (the screaming helps)

Never got the hang of stitching...this works really well to emphasize a big, open landscape.
